PostSubject: An old Orange Craftsman Project   An old Orange Craftsman Project Icon_minitimeJanuary 28th 2013, 11:27 pm

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for suggestions and ideas for this old tractor. I plan on swapping in a 15hp engine into it. It has a great transmission setup with a chain driven rear axle. I've painted it up a bit, and I would like to be able to drive off road with it. Any ideas and suggestions are welcome! I plan on documenting this project on youtube. RIght now I have one video on youtube regarding tractors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLsPVKaZvoU&list=UUyYtcatcvbTvTftysCuWQPA&index=6

Truck tires all around with a 4" or so lift on top of that. Bet that would look good.

I think what would be awesome would be to put some mini tractor tires or some atv tires on it. Would give you the extra grip and extra lift you need for ground clearance. I would run 25's in the back and probably 20'in the front

Yea, nothing too big but just rims and all-terrains off from a regular pickup.

I like your style. What's better: AG super lug tires or ATV tires?

Chrome wheels may be hard to do, but I could always paint them to "look" like chrome or get chrome hub caps. I just have to start on the engine swap and wiring first...

i have a friend that has super lugs and they are not the best on rocks and in sand. They are wonderful in mud though

i would defiantly put tubes in what ever tire you get though because you can air them down a bunch and not have to work about losing air if they pop of the bead .

also i think it would be cool if you extended the frame slightly. your tractor looks really short i feel like if ya put new tires on it it would be awfully scary to climb large hills with the short wheel base plus it might look even cooler

I'll consider extending the frame after I mess around with a welder this Spring.

I have AG tires on my other mower and they are pretty bumpy but they work for when I plow the driveway. I'll probably go the ATV tire route with tubes in the back and figure something out for the fronts.

Ball bearing in the front tires, the unground ones worked best for me....they have a slight lip on one side.
