PostSubject: Spicer transaxle   Spicer transaxle Icon_minitimeFebruary 27th 2013, 9:52 pm

I recently got a Murray lawn mower with a Spicer transaxle. Im gonna set it up for racing, im not to familiar with Spicer transaxles are they any good.

The mower also came with a 16HP Briggs opposed twin. The steering has almos no play.

For 50$ I think it was a good deal. Ill post picks tomorrow

$50 is great for anything running.

Spicers arent the best, but they arent too bad. Would have been better if it was a Peerless.

The spicers are built by the same company that builds foote, and dana.

These are all respected names in automotive, commercial and industrial drivelines.

I have no experience with them in lawn tractors.

Starters for single cylinders are like $35 on eBay, I dunno what a starter looks like on an opposed. Could ask Junkstar if he has one, I cant remember if his had one.

Basically the starter for a single will look the same as a starter fro a twin. The size may cahnge, but the design is pretty basic

Your v-twin a vangruard?

Opposed twins have the same starter motor, but the top is different. Most parts will interchange, but the whole starter will not.

I have a spicer on my tractor and it's held up well. I have a feeling it was not used very much.

That it was. Starter from an 80s something flathead fit right on.
