Putting a horizontal shaft engine in my mower Empty
PostSubject: Putting a horizontal shaft engine in my mower   Putting a horizontal shaft engine in my mower Icon_minitimeJune 3rd 2013, 11:22 pm

Hi guys I'm kinda stuck I have mocked up putting a horizontal shaft engine in a lawn mower I got for free because the motor blew up and I had this one laying around. I remember seeing it be done on you tube and the guy had an adapter that took it from horizontal to vertical so the belt would fit on the stock tranny. Does anyone know where I can find that part?

more than like you will have to buy it, its a right angle gear box
it would be easier and probally cheaper to find a vertical shaft engine than to find a ragb

^that

A RAGB that would handle what you want it to do will run you $300 easily. You can do a CL find for a running engine for anywhere from $50 to $400.

If you scout around, you might be able to source an RAGB on the cheap. I got two seriously beefy units from Bolens garden tractor attachments. One from a cutting deck, the other from a snowblower. They have iron cases, steel gears, are close to 1:1 (1.2:1 IIRC) and can definitely tolerate the abuse.

U can just mount your transaxle up right with the input facing the front as long as its grease filled. I've been doing this for years no problems and allows for some great suspension options
