Yook off the electric motor and SURPRISE!  The Red Fox - Page 7 2429134702

MY variant does NOT have a shaft, it has a helical gear on the MOTOR shaft. GRRR! so I'm going to have to cast an aluminum carrier for a homemade right angle gearbox using the gears from the MTD FNR to drive the helical input gear

On the plus side, I have springs, shackles, axle, shocks, anti sway bar, and dual mechanical drum brakes... it may be worth the effort.

That or... Keep your onan generator engine combo together and put the electric motor back with the golf cart axle. Then with some converting from 110v to 24/48v (whatever golf carts are), you won't need a clutch or transmission. Not that that's the thing to do with something like this, but just a cool idea to think about. Neat thing with that would be you don't need to line anything up and you can put the engine where ever you want. Also while i'm thinking about it, don't those old onan generators use the gernerator as a starter? Hence if you remove the generator you won't have a starter. Not that you couldn't rig something up fairly easy, but I was just wondering.

The cck engine has an automotive type ring gear starter. While yes, I could do it that way converting the 220AC to 36v DC (an old fork lift charger or welder transformer would work) I prefer to go the mechanical route. A lot of the treehugger cars out there do basically the same thing.

I see a sliding gear/shifter, looks like the golf cart axle has a high/low? O wait, I think that's a reverse...

You could also use an old car rear axle for a RAGB. Depending on what way you mount it, gives you some ratio options.

O! WAIT! You could put the transmission, and axle, in reverse at the same time, and have a really low forward gear!

Unfortunately, when I tore into my axle, I found a different variant to the one I showed. I pulled that pic up from an ezgo website. While it LOOKs the same on the exterior, mine is completely different on the INSIDE. GRRR!

I think the one shown is a gas engine axle, and the shift fork is reverse/forward. "lectric just switched poles for reverse. It's gonna take some engineering feats to make it work, I'll try to keep ya posted.

DARN. I was going to randomly shift your axle in reverse at haspin....

I'd try to find a gas one then. The more levers/shifters, the better!

I think ezgo actually stole the case design from peerless... it's very similar to the 1200, just the internals are quite different. I'm heading to the sawmill today, and the ole farmer that runs it has an old Golf cart or 2 laying around... maybe I'll get lucky and find a front drive dana axle (they made some for thes things... it's kinda like a mini car axle)

and stretch..... Remember evil deeds come back in spades (evil eye) be nice or silver bullet could end up as a hood ornament!

THIS is the diagram for my axle... I have found a piece, and the associated bearing assembly on line to convert the innie into an outtie... 'cept it's 89 dollars for the bearing and shaft assembly.... NOPE

The Red Fox - Page 7 EZGO3-1

That just goes against my entire junkyard mentality. SOOOOO....

Plans are to take the shaft from the rotor (inside the electric motor)
shorten it so that I can use the front and rear bearings to support the shaft, and use the original drive assy MINUS the electric motor... I'll take pics along the way to keep ya posted on difficulties as they spring up.

I don't think the "cool factor" is really there with electric power. At least not for this project.

I WILL admit that that has a bit to do with my decision... It's too easy.  afro

I've seen these, they're brilliant for an application like this. I been keeping lookout for one too. I know SOME of them (maybe all, not a golf cart guy) came equipped with a CVT, with the driven mounted directly on the differential pinion flange.
