so i have a old 1969 huffy caprice... and im thinking of putting a 212cc predator "honda clone" engine in it... and right now my axle would work with it... but id lose the stock h shift trans... so i was looking and though "ok" lets put a 3 speed peerless as the rear axle... then i have a 3 speed w/ n+r... but then i noticed... wait i would need to transfer the horizontal to a vertical... cause the peerless has a vertical input... so i was then thinking "ok" lets then get a right angle gearbox in... but they are so expensive!!! and i was reading and it said that if you have a 40hp engine it would then convert it to 32..."but keep in mind i have a 6.5... or will have one soon"...so then would i have a -1.5hp????? or is their any horizontal input transaxles? cause i have not found any.... without having to buy a old sears... or something like that.

I think he is talking about parasitic draw, from adding a gearbox. I think if you could find a 3 speed like moose had in his massey and mr. modified still has in his simpilcity, that would be perfect for your project.

Not sure I would call it parasitic draw if you have a engine with a speed up gearbox on it something like 1:3 or something itll murder your engine but most are usually 1:1 so if anything you have the friction of internal parts and maybe drag from the bushing/bearings.

Hears an idea. keep your original transmission. Lock the diff, put a sprocket on each axles, which each have a chain running back to your axle. Run a centrifugal clutch+ chain to your transaxle input (im assuming its a peerless 1200 series), then put a sprocket on each axle where the tires used to be, then run 2 chains back to your live axle. Essentially the only weak spot in this would be your transaxle. The locked diff would get little stress running to a live axle. If im confusing you I can draw a diagram up.
