Hello all,
Today i picked up a dynamark mower. 8hp, 32 inch cut, 3 speed, peerless 700 series chain drive trans.
Been sitting outside for 15+ years
Shifer and engine both locked up

Plans include but are not limited to:
New steering
Unlock engine and possibly replace it
Unlock shifter, pack trans with grease
New tires
New steering
Repaint
New wiring harness
Pull start

Pics will be coming soon. Fair warning- because it has been sitting outside for so long it may be too far gone. I do not quite know if i will be able to build it. From first looks it appears to be fit for the scrap yard.

Love the look of the rusted grill on that one. I'd clear coat the whole thing, lower it and make it fast.

We've been texting a lot the last few days and I'm pretty sure plans changed to exactly what you described. I'm not sure if the front axle will just get flipped or if we'll build a new one or what. But I think he's pretty solid on clearcoating it. I think it looks pretty good like it is too.

Sometimes that stuff will free up easier than you think. Engine would probably be easy to find a cheap replacement anyway. On the peerless 700 I took apart, the shifter shaft was rusted up some. I cleaned all the rust off and then put it back together. Main thing is to just be patient with stuff like that taking it apart. Keep soaking it with penetrating oil and just work slow so you don't score things up worse than necessary.

Yes, I am set on clear coating it. Now that CraftsmanQuad19 put that into my head, i like the idea more and more. I was originally planning on taking the steering/handlebars/ rear axle out of a mini chinese 4 wheeler that was just kinda hanging out. (i do still have the chassey, suspension, rear axles and steering. its basically a rolling body. I was thinking about making a separate build out of that later on, maybe put a honda gx160 on it with a comet torque converter. The reason i decided against using parts from it was because the wheelbase on it is actually 2 inches shorter than the dynamarks. If im making it go fast, i want as wide a wheelbase as possible. And not sure if i mentioned this, but i have an 18.5hp Briggs oppy twin II just kinda hanging around. I am also getting a double barrel carb off of a 37hp briggs vanguard that had a poorly casted block, causing it to crack. The carb does come with the manifold. Maybe mod it up with the existing manifold on the oppy and use a double barrel carb? Anyway, i have no idea on what the state of the tranny is. as far as i know the only thing that is froze up is the shifter, but the entire thing could be locked. For steering, since the steering on this is so crappy, I have a cub cadet 1440 with a bad hydro that is hanging around for parts. it has a little box that the steering shaft goes into with a tierod to each tire. Pretty dang thick tierods too.

I think those kinda Dynamarks are pretty rear these days, so you could just do a pulley swap, get the transmission and engine working and use it. It nearly looks too good to be hacked up.

thats the plan. Simple as possible. For now it will remain stock just to get it running and driving. after that, the engine will be swapped for the opposed twin and i will be fixing the steering. Then tires, lower it, pulley swap and off i go!

Oh by the way guys i did get the full story on this mower- it was the guy's dads mower. he used this tiny thing to mow 4+ acres. Basically, this guys dad started having issues. Somebody finished mowing the lawn with it, parked it behind the shed, filled the tank with gas and flipped the seat up so whoever sat on it next didnt get their a** burned. Then the guys dads health started declining, and he eventually passed away and the guy was given a free John deere. In short, it ran, it was parked after mowing the yard and never moved again. Until i came along at least. It even had a full tank of gas- still has the full tank, except now its some sort of brown, runny liquid. smells strongly of varnish (i wonder why, its only 15 some years old) suprisingly enough, the fuel line is still in decent shape...hoping i luck out with the carb. Unfortunately, the oil situation is bad. Somewhere along the line most of the oil has dissapeared through the engine, and as you can see the previously black oil fill cap has been bleached white.

I pretty sure that is identical to the mower my Grandad bought in the 1980. It was badged as a Turf Master 8/32 but was very similar to an Atco 8/32 which in turn are identical to a Dynamark 8/32. It even has the same foote 3 speed H-Shift with R in the place of 1st. If I were you, I'd try and get the engine running on that 15 yr old fuel, those Briggs are tough man!
BTW, I'm gonna try and see if I can get a photo of the Turf master, I'm fairly sure there's one somewhere.

Quick update on the dynamark- it has a foote transaxle, not a peerless. I have also found steering for it, as well as a slightly wider cast iron front axle. I am working on getting the briggs running, because i have plans for it later on. If it needs rings, so be it. Unless the cylinder is super pitted with rust, ill be using it. Unfortunately, i have run out of time to work. I finished one tractor ( my Ranch King) tore down another tractor (my cub cadet 1440) the dynamark is my last mower hanging around. I probably will not get to it until next summer, especially since we are supposed to have a hard winter this year.

Cool man, yeah it would be an H-shift foote 3 speed. It's the foote version of the peerless 700.

I was up there yesterday and it took me all of 5 minutes to figure out it was a foote. He's had it for a few weeks. i just stuck my head under the seat and it said it right on top. It's froze up, but probably salvageable.

Alright! Now that work on my ranch king is done (for now, they are never exactly finished) The cub cadet has been stripped down( for the most part, i still need to yank the fuel tank and the rear end and the front axle and steering) But none of that will take too long. Once all of that is done, it will be headed for the scrap yard. That leaves the dynamark as my only remaining project mower. This winter i will be pretty occupied with driving the king around in the snow, plowing snow and all that good stuff. Next spring/summer, i will be tearing into the dynamark. Plans include but are not limited to:
Steering and cast iron front axle out of the cub
Opposed twin (18hp)
Leave stock fuel tank(its only a half gallon, will be adding a secondary larger fuel tank)
Clear coat
new tires
7 inch pulley on the engine, 4 on the transaxle
stock chain config with larger chain and a tensioner sprocket
New pilow bearings on the rear axle
new smaller sprocket on the rear axle( 35 tooth)
stock 8 or 12 tooth sprocket on the transaxle (cant remember)
New headlights (probably seal beams like the factory, i have some of those on a shelf)
homemade double pulley clutch with an mtd clutch pedal, switching it to the left side(its on the right side right now)
throttle pedal on the right
brake setup (disc brakes on the rear axle + the caliper brakes on the transaxle)

Should i leave the stock 8 inch transaxle pulley and do a 1 to 1 on the pulleys and then do my major gearing with the chain? or should i leave the sprocket larger on the axle and do my ratios on the belt? I need help on which would be better. i wont be doing any pulling with this, this will be strictly for screwing around in fields after they have been harvested and driving on roads. im also torn on exhaust. straightpipes going down and coming out right in front of the rear tires or a stock muffler?

I would keep the old 8hp, but maybe it wouldn't have enough power to push the speed you want. I think its better to keep the belt 1 to 1 and change the sprocket as the transmission would be turning slower that way Wink

That does make sense. less wear and tear on the transaxle. and yea i planned on keeping the 8hp. it will probably go on a pull behind mower, where it has to do nothing but drive blades on a 43 inch deck, assuming it doesnt take too much to get going. if its going to be a ridiculous amount of work to get going, parts will be coming out of it to repair my 11hp, which has the same block. all my 11 needs is a carburetor, connecting rod, and the case bearings for the crankshaft. then...idk what ill do with the 11 lol... too many engines!! Mad i suppose thats a good problem to have, better than having to scramble for engines.

I meant keep the old 8hp on the mower lol. If you put a twin in there, you'd have to cut up that nice rusted hood.

I was hoping if i put an oppy on there that i wouldnt have to cut the hood. the 8hp would work well, i could do a taller cam and a stronger rod and gov delete. i like the low end torque of the oppys. The dynamark will likely keep a muffler on it, so that i can sneak up on things. When you are running from the cops, straightpipes are not in your favor lol!

That 8 hp should be strong enough to out run, nevermind. Definitely run a big muffler. I had to quite down my kids mini bike so the cops wouldn't hear him 2 blocks away.

Im also thinking leave the 8hp on there, assuming i can get her running with a reasonable amount of work. the carb is good though. no wiggle on the throttle like they get when they are older. i can do a gov delete and i can get a decently strong rod and a taller cam from a small ohv/ or some other engine. not looking to pump a whole ton of money into it. heck i could leave it bone stock aside from rings and gaskets that will likely need replaced and do almost a 1 to 1 on the sprockets and a slightly faster gear ratio on the pulleys up front. that could work ,and i could leave the stock fuel tank in the hood. thatll be enough to run that little 8hp for quite a while. I can also build myself a 2 or 3 stage muffler so that you can hear the tires whistling on the pavement above the engine, at the cost of flow.

If i ever do end up running from the cops with this thing for something stupid like TP'ing somebodys house or something, i can already imagine the look on the cops face as they chase me- "what in the hell am i chasing??" lol! lol!

well i guess it wouldnt be the highway, more backroads but still

Mah buddy and i each have a mudding/general use mower build...technically he has a mudding and a utility, mine is an all in one. then we both got rat rod/speed builds to do. There's quite a few people in my area who build these things. we could take the nearest town with mowers! im calling it now, its happening. the great mower crusade lol! Twisted Evil

there are so many rednecks in my area and i aint even from the south...
