I'm in process of building my Bolens st110 and I'm getting ready to mount the tank and run new fuel line from back to front. I'm thinking of running some 1/4 inch brake line from the tank to near the carburetor. Main reason for wanting to use metal line is that it would be cheaper to use and help keep rubber line length to a minimum, and to minimize the chance of the hose getting caught on branches or something and getting torn off. I'm just looking to see what you guys are running on your rigs that have rear mounted tanks. TIA

I, personally am running rubber line, always have. But I do have a Briggs 8hp horizontal shaft that is probably from the 60s that has metal fuel line, pretty much brake line. The only problem I see is that if you kink it, you're pretty screwed, and you have to have a brake line flange kit.

I see your point, I was gonna keep it up out of the way so that wouldn't happen. Besides, its pretty hard to bend/kink any metal line that's bigger than the average brake line. I guess I will have to try it and see, can't go wrong with free line. Hopefully it'll work better than I think it will. Very Happy

I have a steel fuel line on the rat rod. It doesn't have the fuel tank at the rear but still, I just used two short lengths of fuel hose at the carb and fuel tank to adapt the steel line to the fittings.

I figured cars and trucks have been using them for decades, it obviously works. I'm gonna do it on the Bolens and let you guys know how it turns out.

I did it on my one Craftsman as the tank outlet was right above the pulley so I needed a sharper bend. Worked great. Optimally I would have flared the line to act as a barb, but I just used good quality hose clamps with no issues. I try to integrate it onto as much of my stuff as I can.

I'd probably use it too but fuel hose is dirt cheap around here and getting it connected to the carb and fuel tank is a problem too. My 6hp diesel has it going from the fuel pump to injector. Looks pretty cool Wink

The only reason why diesel have a metal fuel line is because the fuel pressure after the injection pump is between 2000 and 4000 psi, a rubber line can't withstand that kind of pressure, rubber lines are good to about 20psi.

Nope, it's metal fuel link from the fuel pump to the injector. Don't think a fuel pump creates much pressure.

SteamNut is correct. There is a difference between a fuel pump and an injection pump. Diesel has to be at a high pressure so it will come out as an extremely fine mist and actually burn. Running metal fuel lines would be just fine I would think, and if they're stainless will likely outlast the tractor. Running a tank in the back, steel lines just make sense IMO

My 1952 farmall C has all meatal fuel line, it runs from the sediment bowl to the carb. Works great, doesn't snap or get more brittle or hard to remove, its original and works good today.
