1988 Honda TRX250R Empty
PostSubject: 1988 Honda TRX250R   1988 Honda TRX250R Icon_minitimeJuly 9th 2011, 1:43 am

My new project I got. I have almost everything I need to complete this machine. If anyone on here knows what these 250r's are, and what they are capable of, you know they kick ass. It has Maxxis RAZR rear tires, works ressy shocks with 2 way adjustable spring rate, I beleive 3 way adjustable rear shock, with ressy. The motor is a 250 2 stroke with FMF gold series expansion chamber, vortex clutch basket and a fresh top end housed in a ct racing jug. First video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5t5atXujssw
So far, the machine needs:

Clutch kit
Jet the carb (possible carb rebuild)
silencer
front caliper rebuild kits
chain
shifter arm
eventually new front tires (worn)
new handle bars (slightly bent)

LONG LIVE THE TRX250R

Day 1. Got the machine, organized all my parts in boxes, pulled off the plastics and examined everything. Noticed the spindles were on backwards. Didnt think much of it.

Day 2. Removed the backwards spindles and proceeded to put them on correct. They would tighten a 1/8 of thread and then the ball joints would spin. After removing the nuts, I then realized how badly damaged the threads are. I looked into some new ball joints, but on the 88 and 89 R's they were not changable. They were on the 86 and 87 though. The only way I was going to get around this was new a arms...top and bottem. I soon started thinking this was a big time bust. But I was able to get one side of the a arms on. Phew.
