Cub Cadet 108

Got this home today. Front tires go flat over time but rears hold air just fine. 3 speed shaft driven tranny with dry disk clutch and dual rear disk brakes . Mower deck has 2 small blades with one main blade and dual side ports for selection of chute side. Have the hood but isn't on right now, and it is missing a few heat shields on the k241a kohler engine and a middle drive line coverage plate is gone . Got it from my grampa and it has been wrecked once and then fixed , and someone tried to fix it by removing the heat shields and never replaced them . Plans are to get it running and driving , then mowing and use it to tow trailers and other mowers around the place. 8

What a cool machine!! That trans is bulletproof and the dual brake is a pretty sweet feature. That 16hp Kohler will be a great engine too, plenty of power you anything you need it to do. Definitely looking forward to seeing more of this rig!

It's a 16hp? Cool I thought it would be a 12 or something.

Oh sorry! I though you said K341. Yeah it'll be a 10hp actually if it's a K241. My apologies, haha

Well it runs! (Yes it is a 10hp)Blade clutch doesn't disengage and needs blower shrouds,..... hey @Double W Cross Ranch , if your extra kohlers have the shrouds I would be interested in getting them .

Doesn't idle down all the way but runs full throttle smoothly.

Hmm... linkage issue? Or does the throttle plate close all the way and it still doesn't idle?

I think the carb is dirty, I mean it has sat for at least 5 years.

That thing is pretty stout, is it considered a narrow frame or wide frame?

I think it's a wide frame but not sure.

(In the chat last night he told me they needed the ones that went across the head and kind of on the side.)  They don't have them, sorry.  I would just make them out of sheet metal if I were you, just bend them and drill some holes in them.

Might need to do that as new tins are pricey and I don't k ow of any used engines I can get my hands on over here. Did want to keep it fully stock but oh well, adding a nice chrome exhaust wouldn't be stock either lol.

pretty sure that just has to do with the age, I think that is from the 70's?

Yeah it's around a 71-74 year.

Good news! The clutch does disengage but needs a part, the shields are now all on since my gramps found a box with all the original plates. I have some tires to swap on the front and the steering is very scary as turning left goes from very little steering to full left hand turn. The axle pivots back and forth so I need to fix something. And turning right barely makes it to half turned out.

What the heck is going on with your steering?  Is it totally worn out?  Does this cub have the steering box?

It should have a little Ross steering box. Maybe it's wore out? Or a linkage is binding?

I have no idea. Haven't dug into it yet as I just got the shrouds on so I can use it . It does have a steering box but the wheel seems smooth like the gears are fine but there is way to much play in it.

Nope, but I did fix it. The main pivot pin in the axle was completely worn off on one side. Made a new one put of an old spicer axle and it steers almost like new! Put the hood on and replaced the flat tire with one that hold air and was new and never used but sat for 3 years so has a few cracks but tread still has the rubber (things) on them. Next tire will be replaced sometime as the old ones were smooth tread and the new ones are turf tires and steer much better.
