jb weld lawnmower dif?

Yes I know this sounds dumb, but I don’t have a welder and I’ve only got about 10 minutes of experience using one, I just need some opinions been watching some videos and it seems like JB Weld original formula is the strongest. Do you think it would be able to hold up to abuse on an off-road mower? if not maybe I could find someone around me with a welder or get another spider gear and lock it that way. Thanks!

Also welcome to the forum! I wouldn’t recommend job welding the diff for risk of the epoxy breaking off, then you have chunks floating around in the oil and that can do damage.

Yeah, I agree with  @Rustbucket Garage.  I would not jb weld.  It would shatter then a floating piece would get lodged somewhere and bust your case.  Like Rustbucket said, best option, is the weldless doc locker.  If you have patience, its not too hard.  Just got to buy a few parts for it.  I have a weldless Doc locker in one of my MST's (206).  Still holding up after 5 years.  Matter of fact, I am transferring that trans into my latest build.

Edit, there is another option but can be a little more risky, is RedneckComputerGeek's zinc locker, but that requires you to melt it down  and fill up the bull gear with the melted metal. Not going to post the video, just the link.

Drive it like it is for now. Do you have the rig running? If so, run it and see if you need to lock the diff.

I'll add.  If you are not dealing with hills or deep mud.  Unlocked is fine.  If you are going to do a lot of hill riding, locking is a must.

I can say the only time I’ve seriously slipped out is going up hill on ice. Every thing else I could do fine. Course my tractor weighs about a half ton
