I've really wanted to make a Off-Road Lawn Tractor and decided to use a Tractor I got for free. My Father gave it to me since It would take 10 hours to cut out lawn with it. Ive started this a while ago but I haven't really done much until now. I'm probably going to keep adding to this Post every time I add something. Fell free to recommend me ideas for my tractor.

Heres the First Picture I took of it(This is the first that I never deleted, I really wish I took picture of it resting Sad )
This was After I put the Larger Front Tires on it, It originally comes stock with 12" Tires and as of now it has 18" Tires from a Noma Tractor that was missing an engine.

These are the Original Tires that were left on it since it was abandoned in 1998.

This is how I mounted the Tires to the Front Axle(I didn't need to do any welding which made me really happy Smile )
The Spindle was actually to long for the Larger tires so I took a piece of plastic from the original wheel and turned it around and grinded some of the plastic away on my pedistal grinder so the original hole in the Spindle would line up with the cotter-pin.

My Next idea was to be able to plow with it, After I made the mount for the plow to attach to the Lawn Tractor I noticed I had no snow out and that It would cost $5 to get the other two snow-blowers working...So I can Plow with the Lawn Tractor but I'm not going to.

This was my First Push Bar I wanted to make, It didn't end up well at all so its in the corner of my garage waiting for my friend to take it for his tractor.

This is a fairly recent picture of the Lawn Tractor with the new Push Bar I put on it(I think its alot nicer then the Original one I was planning to do)

My MudFlite Project IMG_1308
We Finally got Snow! This is the first time I tested it out in the Snow Smile

My MudFlite Project IMG_1313
Here are the New Lights I put on it(They still aren't wired up but they will be and im probably going to run them off of a different switch then the main headlights(I thought they were dead but I never tried it).

That's All for now, I'm hoping next will be using the Original Gas tank(the Elbow is broken so i'm waiting for the new one to come in), A Pulley Swap, Then the Wiring for the Headlights.

Yesterday(Christmas Eve) I bought myself a Steering Nob(Makes it easier to steer) for $20(way to much in my opinion after looking at how cheaply it was built).
My MudFlite Project IMG_1319

Today My brother went out on his Snowmobile to make sure it was still Ok and I decided to go out with him and I ended up turning into one of our plowed feilds and broke something a "little special" for my steering Razz

It looks sort of Normal.

My MudFlite Project IMG_1320
Or not.

My MudFlite Project IMG_1330
Whoops...

My MudFlite Project IMG_1328
I guess I cant repair it...

So Now I need to find one that is in decent shape and fits, I looked at it and there was a crack already in the metal before I broke it(There was rust along the crack line and someone tried welding it back together before my father bought it in 1998) all it needed was a couple of bumps in the field and it decided to crack some more. At least I found that out now instead of in the middle of a mud hole 2-3km away from home.

i did almost the exact same thing to my tractor i use to cut my grass, the tires looked normal but i couldnt turn to the right at all and it would turn amazingly sharp to the left
i noticed after it bent that it was completely screwed before i even bought it and someone straightened it (frame was still bent and that explains why) apparently the person that sold it to me nearly ripped the axle right out of it but straightened it then tried to learn how to use an arc welder but made a mess of it and it didnt hold at all so i got to replace it last summer after cutting half my lawn

Im probably going to do the pulley swap and the steering sometime in the first couple weeks of the new year(depending when I have free time).

I know my front end looks a little similar to the craftsmans, I have a friend that has a craftsman and you can see the resemblance(I like the look of mine over the craftsman's).

My frame isn't bent(Im lucky about that) because it ran out of gas trying to go through the field and the pivot bar bent right before it ran out of gas, Im lucky about that one, just bend the guide that the pivot bar rides in and it looks brand new. I'm hoping to find a stronger one that's could be solid steel or something so I never have this problem(just to save money in the long run). If that pivot bar bent before probably cutting lawn it's probably going to bend again sometime mudding.

I was thinking of making my own like you said, If I cant find one that will match I will probably have to build my own.

Finally got around to working on my Tractor, I actually rode it a little bit and noticed that it works better going though mud in reverse then forward, I'm guessing its because of the weight of the tires in the front or something. My friend who has a hole bunch of lawn tractors only had one axle that would fit my tractor and I needed to modify it to fit my tractor.

After I put the Axle back in I Worked on getting my Original Gas Tank working and unfortunately after sitting for 9 years It was really dirty and ended up plugging up the carb so I cleaned the Gas tank out and put an 18HP Briggs and Stratton Carb on it and its never ran so smooth, I checked the Plugs and its not running to rich nor to lean(I hope that a bigger carb doesn't make it run leaner!) without any adjustments to the carb.

When I had to clean the gastank out I needed to take the Tires and Rims off because a piece holding the tank in wouldn't come out unless the rim was off so I reversed the tires so the Tires have a wider idea that it covers.

So I haven't done much to the Tractor, I have been looking around for better rear tires but I can't find many that are less then $120 and piece and have decent grip, I was also thinking of making weld-on bead lockers after Me and my father complete his Barn to Garage Project(within 0.5-4 years)

Ive been thinking of converting my Tractor to a Work tractor and make a Backhoe arm for it, a Towing Hitch(similar to CraftsMANs Sleeve Hitch), DC stick welder, etc.

I was thinking of taking a Different Tractor and making it into a mudding tractor, I would prefer to have a lighter tractor for mudding, the LawnFlite is way to heavy to be using as a mudding tractor, Its almost unstoppable but when it gets stuck I can't pull it out with the other tractors. I have a 1986 Suzuki Quadrunner 230 that I got for $20(for parts) and I was thinking of taking the front suspension off of the quadrunner and putting it on my new tractor.
