I have a spicer that broke a tooth. I took it apart because it didn't want to shift while running and adjusting the brake didn't fix it. I found a tooth in bottom of the pan. I would like to replace it but will probably need to wait for tax return.

I was thinking that I could turn it into a five speed with two neutral. if I take the bad gear and grind off all the teeth then restack them the bad set in the first speed position then maybe that would work for what I need and basically be able to move it when needed. im not exactly sure which is first and sixth gear. I think the broken gear is third but if im wrong I guess it is fourth.

also:

is it normal for the spider gears to hang out one side?

what does the 180 mean in the model number?

any help would be very much appreciated.

On flywheels when the teeth get chewed up, you grind it smooth and weld it up to put metal back on the tooth, then file the weld to make a new tooth. If you got a welder, you could weld it up an then file a new tooth on it.

Looks like 3rd gear.

I don't have a welder anymore I had to sell them, however the more I think about it the more I think my original idea would be more problem than it is worth. then I thought maybe a second spacer I assume it is for neutral then I could still put the gear on the input side up front and replace the bad gear with a spacer and have an extra long neutral.

Dana Spacer

edit: just looked on ebay and I can get the gear about the same price.

but then I still don't see what is hanging up the shift keys while it is running.
