This is my project. 1980"s Dayton/MTD 824 I believe. Cast Iron Transaxle

I haven't heard of a Dayton before that's pretty sweet!

I've added it to the MTD Squarebody Info database we have going on.

I love these tractors! This looks to be the exact same model as my Budgie build, there’s a link to that thread in my signature with plenty of information on beefing it up and swapping to a horizontal shaft engine with a straight belt. Can’t wait to see what you come up with! Also, if you wind up wanting any metal bushings to replace the various plastic ones on the tractor just shoot me a PM and we can talk price! I made a bunch of metal bushings for my tractor. They help the steering box especially.
