any real difference in mower - gold cart wheels vs. trailer rims ?

In  my quest to turn all my LT GT and trailers to either 4x4 or 5x4.5, from those with 3/4" to 1" axles, so I can easily change tires and only keep a few spares.  

I bought two of  these and mounted new tires on them, with new metal valve stems, it was a bit of a challenge, but, they held air at 10 psi for months and have been performing well so far.

Is there any real advantage between the two except one being DOT approved? When I mounted them I did not think to compare them directly to a stock slide on 8" wheel.

The reason for asking is I am about to buy at least 6 rims and the difference between $396 and $120 is significant at $276 and is enough to buy 7 18" tires.

My other option is to invest in 12" rims and 20-23" AG type tires now, but, I am pretty sure 23" tires would destroy a 3/4" axle MST205 or MST206.

Any opinions on if the regular gold cart rims are dependable enough, as in not leaking and holding a bead at 7-10 psi?

If it matters, I might buy the 8x7" gold cart rims from BMI.

The biggest difference I've seen in trailer rims vs most mower rims is that trailer rims almost never have the safety bead ridge for low PSI use, while mower rims usually have it as they're used at low psi. Besides that, the only differences I can think of are that trailer rims usually don't have an offset and also have to have the centers bored out to fit over 5 lug mower hubs


Also for the MSTs you can get 8" 5 lug trailer rims. I had some for a while there.

If the choice is between those two, save the $$$.
