where or how can i get either a user guide or workshop manual for a 1997 murray ride on lawn tractor, the modle number is 4030x76. I have tried google,yahoo, murray and serch the web and so far came up with nil. Can anyone hepl me PLEASE.

Most murray codes ar 6 digets then an x then 2 digit   123456x12 
It would seem to me you are missing numbers. 

In any case can you give a pic and engine size and I bet I can help you.

What do you need a new manual for may I ask?

I have a technician guide handy for all the Peerless transaxles, but I dont think that is what you are looking for.

no it does not have six didgets then x then 2. 40304x76 is correct  I was able to get the mod number from a spares part list only manual fron a firm in Ireland, and it has a briggs & stratton 12.5 hp engine. And answer to quest.2  is I would like to do a complete restore, plus I would like to know the correct way to operate the machine
